The All Rivers And Species Act

Can we develop new, collective ways of listening to, or sensing rivers? How can we better connect with our local bodies of water?

The All Rivers and Species Act is a collaborative, process driven project exploring the rights of nature and the personhood of a river. The project was developed during the FIBER Reassemble lab 2021, where our diverse group of artists investigated policy texts, AI tools, sound and video making. This exploration resulted in a speculative river policy text, a short sound and video piece and a full day, site specific, participatory experience which explores—through sensing, ceremony and making—the possibilities for understanding bodies of water as living beings rather than as a resource. We use virtual world-building tools with hands on craft techniques to prototype fantastic beings fighting for legal rights of the rivers and bodies of water
